Thinking Of You Card

By | December 29, 2013

I received from very sad news today about a friend.  I wanted to make him a card and get it to him as soon as possible.  He only has brief moments of clarity these days and I want this card there for when that happens.  He loves to fish, especially with his grandkids who are the light of his life. My heart is going out to him right now and his grandkids.  Thinking of you Glen!

Here’s how the card is made:

Fish

To begin, I decided to grab a sketch from the Monday Lunchtime Sketch challenge.  You can see that sketch here.

Start with some Island Indigo card stock and cut it to 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ and fold it in half.  Break out some Gumball Green card stock and cut that to 4 1/4″ x 4 3/8″.

Use the Envelope Punch Board to create the green file folder top. Once that is done, choose some new card stock from the Stampin’ Up! spring catalog. It’s called Watercolor Wonder. Cut a piece of that paper to 4 1/2″ x 4″.  Then, measure out to the middle and draw a line down the center of the paper with your pencil.  Using your paper trimmer, angle the paper from the pencil mark, or center and cut diagonal to each corner.  The extra piece forms a triangle you can use later.2013-12-29 13.22.31

Glue the Watercolor Paper and Gumball Green together and then run it through the Big Shot using the new Decorative Dots Embossing Folder.  Below this paper, stamp the striped image in Gumball green from the new stamp set “Perfect Pennants”.

Choose the appropriate sentiment for you.  I found the perfect sentiment for me in a retired stamp set called “Upsy Daisy”.  Stamp it with Island Indigo ink on Whisper White card stock and cut it out using the “Banner Framelits” on the Big Shot machine.

Now it was time for the Fish, which is the focal point.  Stamp the fish from the “By The Tide” stamp set in Black StazOn ink. Use an aqua painter and Island Indigo ink to color in the fish.  Once dry, use oval Framelits to center him and cut out an oval, as well as a larger oval in Island Indigo paper.

Once the fish is layered and glued down to the center of the card, use Crystal Effects to cover the fish and then add some fine green glitter to finish him off.  One more thing to make the card perfect and that was Washi Tape.  It is gold polka dots and I just ripped off a piece and put it next to the pennant.

Now onto the inside of the card…

Adhere a piece of Whisper White paper and stamp the sentiment in Gumball Green.  The sentiment is from the Perfect Pennants stamp set.  Lastly, adhere a piece of left over Island Indigo to the envelope flap and run that through the Big Shot Machine using the same embossing folder as earlier.
