Swirly Bird

Welcome friends.  In today’s post, I’m going to show you an adorable card using the Stampin’ Up! set or bundle called Swirly Bird.

I will tell you right now that when it first came out, I scrolled right on by.  I saw a bunch of cool geometrical shapes but had no idea what to do with it.  That is, until I saw what creative folks were doing with it.  OH. MY. WORD.  The creations are endless.  From kites, to sailboats, birds and eggs, flowers, etc.  There is so much you can create with this set and matching thinlits!Swirly Bird

I started by choosing the colors I wanted.  I used the Foxy DSP as a starting point.  Even though I chose the grey side of the patterned paper, I took the color combination from the rest of the paper pack.  You see, when you flip the paper over, it’s all these colors: Calypso Coral, Pool Party and Smoky Slate.

I honestly wanted to do a black card base, but didn’t have enough on hand. GASP!!!  I KNOW- right?  How did I let that happen?  OMG.  So, I went with Basic Grey instead and I think it works just as nice.

Then, I moved on to the stamping and cutting.  The only thing die cut on this page is that adorable nest-looking thing, for lack of a better word.  I think it’s so pretty and so modern.  Gorgeous.  I wanted a non-traditional nest, so I went with the coral color.

Now, even though I didn’t have enough black to make the card base, I still have a TON of scraps going on in this mess of a craft room.  So I grabbed a slice and stamped the sentiment on here with Versamark ink.  I then poored the embossing powder over it and melted it using the heat tool.  I think this just makes it pop off the paper.  What do you think?

Below is a list of all the products I used in this card.  You will notice that I added the swirly bird stamp and thinlit sets separately, but also included a link to the bundle since it’s cheaper to buy both at the same time.  Also, make sure you scroll down farther to see all the goodies in the clearance rack this week and stock up!
