How to Paper Piece

In this episode of How to Paper Piece, I am going to show you how to make your cardstock look like a sunburst. Yay, right?

Okay, let’s begin with the basics, shall we?  We need a card base, so cut your 8 1/2″ x 11″ cardstock in half and fold.  This is your card base.

Next, cut an additional piece of cardstock so that it measures 4″ x 5  1/4″.

Cover the top half of that piece of cardstock with adhesive.  I like to use SNAIL adhesive from Stampin Up because I find that if I need to move something within a minute or 2 of putting it down, I still can move it.

Great- so now that we have our paper and adhesive ready, we want to take some paper and cut it down to 1″ x 4″ strips.

Then, take those strips and cut them from one corner to the opposite corner, diagonally so that they look like strips of pie.  www.angelasinklink.com

If you don’t have cardstock that matches what you’re looking for, you can create your own like I did.

Next, we will start piecing these strips together, starting in the middle.  IT IS VERY IMPORTANT to start in the middle to get the starburst look!!

Here is the first piece.  Now, go ahead and start adhering the other pieces of paper side by side with the points touching in the middle.  Like this:

How excited are we?  Now, we take the excess and trim it.  If you turn your cardstock over, it will look like this:

Just trim off the excess and turn the card back over.  It should look pretty darn cool!

Now, just go ahead and create the rest of the card the way you like.  If you want to see another example of paper piecing, click here!

Here is the finished product again.  Thanks for stopping by 🙂
