DIY Birthday Card

Well, it’s officially out. The new Stampin’ Up! catalog. But let’s not forget this very popular stamp set that was introduced this spring and has carried over into the new catalog!!! It makes a great DIY Birthday card! Let’s see…

Look at how these bright colors just jump off the page against the black background!  Isn’t that super cool?  It’s so bright and vivid.

To begin with, I stamped the sentiment in Melon Mambo ink.  One of my favorite things to do nowadays is to use a circle punch when I use a sentiment stamp.

For whatever reason, lately I think everything looks better in a circle.  I know, I’m weird.

Next up, I used the Itty Bitty Accents punch pack to punch out these flowers.  Black flowers?  I know, it’s very riskee, ha ha.  BUT… look at how bold the contrast is?  And add a few rhinestones or pearls and it’s still looks preppy and positive 🙂  And by the way- these little punches are a great way to use all those little scraps of paper you’re saving.  Yeah- I do that too.

So I needed some texture to this card.  I decided to emboss the cardstock with the polka dots folder in the Big Shot machine.  It keeps with the “modern” feel of this card.

And just to add another layer of fun, I added a strip of Crushed Curry cardstock and trimmed the ends with my scissors to make a pendant shape.

What do you think?
